SONG MEANINGS

Reckoning Day
The main idea in this song is karma. Dave doesn't need revenge or those kinds of tactics. He knows that in the end, God is going to kick their butts and that is when he will get his justice. Everyone ends up dead and everyone will eventually meet their maker.

Train Of Consequences
This is about a man who is a gambler during the 1920's or so during the Great Depression. Many references are made to "riding the rails" and so forth. That was a common term used for getting around the country. It's not a true story.

Addicted to Chaos
This is about Dave M's drug counselor who sobered Dave up, then overdosed on cocaine. In other words, he didn't practice what he preached.

A Toute Le Monde
This song deals with the time Dave tried to kill himself with valium pills in 1993..(source: a bootleg from Night of the living Megadeth)

Elysion Fields
"In Greek mythology the Elysian Fields, also known as Elysium or the Isles of the Blessed, were the dwelling place after death of virtuous mortals or those given immortality by divine favor."(Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia)

The Killing Road
This song is about life on the road while touring.

Blood Of Heroes
This song is about how Dave and David have survived all the drugs and booze etc...and are still around. Most people wrote them off and are now on a comeback.

Family Tree
This song is about a kid who grows up in a family where his dad is sexually abusing him and as he grows up, he begins to remember all the memories.

Youthanasia
This is about how kids, young adults and I guess I can include the Generation X crowd are being hung out to dry by everyone, including parents and the government.

I thought I knew It All
This song explains that, both Dave's, after going through all their ordeals, thought they knew everything but it turns out they were wrong and that they still need reasons for what they don't know.

Black Curtains
This song deals with Dave M's personal fear of a Nuclear war.

Victory
I guess this is a sum up of Megadeth's career. This song has so many references to past albums.

David’s Gear

I use D'Addario nickel wound, soft gauge strings, D'Addario Steel 130, 100, 80, 6X, 4X, extra long sets for the Modulus' since they have a long scale length.
Jackson 4 string "Thunderbird" neck through body bass which is a dark blue color and is a model a tech and I designed a couple years back. I used the blue one on the 5 string songs on "Youthanasia".

Amps
I recorded with an Ampeg SVT II bass amp into 2 8x10 cabs. I bring along an extra amp and 2 more cabs as backups.

Live Gear
Modulous Graphite 5 string bass w/ a red w/a blue finish over it, maple tops and feature a 35" scale,bolt-on necks that are made from graphite.  Modulous Graphite 5 string bass w/a natural Honey color, maple tops and feature a 35" scale both have maple tops and feature a 35" scale,bolt-on necks that are made from graphite.
I used a 78 Fender P-bass with a Dimarzio pickup and Badass bridge for the 4 string songs.
I tour with an Ampeg SVT II bass amp into 2 8x10 cabs. I bring along an extra amp and 2 more cabs as backups.

Sound Set- up Live

UHF wireless unit that goes into a dbx compressor/limiter into the amp. Out of the amp I send a signal through a Tubeworks tube direct box and then that signal goes into the P.A.
This is in addition to the microphone that is on the speaker cabinet as well. In the sidefills of the monitor system on stage I combine the microphone and DI sound to get the optimum tone for me to hear clearly on stage.
As for settings of the amp it's been a long time since I looked because it's been real consistent and fortunately I have a great tech who makes any necessary adjustments for me everyday at soundcheck.
