  SONG MEANINGS

Last Rites/Loved to Death
This is about a guy who killed his loved one. It's the classic 'if I can't have you, nobody will' idea. To quote Dave M: "Loved to Death's a love song. It's just that our approach to love is a little bit smuttier than everybody else's. You don't have to say 'baby, baby' in every song, or talk about how good your climax was the night before to express love, because love is a four-letter word--either you get reamed by it, or you get excited by it. That's how we look at it. Our love songs are true-to-life happenings. On our first LP, 'Love to Death'-- that was our first attempt at a love song. It's the only song where we actually do say 'love' in it. lt was like boy meets girl, boy falls in love with girl, girl doesn't love boy, so boy kills girl, so no one else will have her. That, is a typical love story. I've been in love a bunch of times with people who were way out of my batting average, and I figured, 'Fuck you, I'm going to kill you, so no one else will have you.' That's our approach. It's something thateople can still relate to."(Mustaine, 1987)

About an assassin, paid to kill a guy, then his next job turns out to be the previous employer.

Skull Beneath the Skin
About some satanic rituals, but also has several lines in it that seem to describe the creation of Vic Rattlhead, our favorite mascot.

These Boots
The Nancy Sinatra Cover song

Rattlehead
About a live concert experience..akin to Metallica's 'Whiplash'

Chosen Ones
I have 2 explanations for this song, I know I'm gonna get some emails about the first but I have no clue if it is true or not, just laugh at it:The song is about the Killer Rabbit in the movie "Monty Python & The Holy Grail" ORThis is about a band of warriors who have to head into a monster's lair..The ending could be either a)they failed b)one of them one and became the monster..hard to tell which one.

 Looking Down The Cross
At some point in 1984, Dave commented that this was about Jesus looking down the cross when he was Crucified on Mount
Calvery.
